World Cup star attracts Aston Villa interest
With John Carew recently intimating that his future may lie elsewhere, Aston Villa are looking at the possibility of bringing in a new forward in January. According to a report in today's Daily Mirror, manager Gerard Houllier is keen on Ivory Coast international Gervinho.
The 23-year-old is currently for playing for Lille, having joined from Le Mans for £6 million in 2009. He has a decent scoring record in French football and has attracted attention from the Premier League before, with Arsenal linked with him before he joined Lille.
Admittedly, Gervinho is probably more similar to Gabriel Agbonlahor than Carew, given his pace and willingness to work the channels, however with Emile Heskey returning to form under Houllier, the former Liverpool boss may not feel he needs a like-for-like replacement for the Norwegian.
Gervinho played alongside Didier Drogba, primarily in a wide role, for his country at this summer's World Cup, and was their best performer as they bowed out in the group stage.

Of course we would. He's an amazing talent. He's more like Gabby but he's far better then Gabby as well. He's not only got the pace but the flair and talent on the ball Gabby lacks.
