Day 56: We're backing Crewe to beat Shrewsbury at [2.3]

After a fairly successful spell betting on matches taking place abroad, it's back to dear old Blighty for today's £10 wager as we again make the bold move of backing a team at odds greater than [2.0], with Crewe [2.3] to get the better of Shrewsbury in League Two.

A glance at the table might suggest that we're making a mistake, as Crewe are ninth, five places and points behind the Shropshire side, while Saturday's results - Shrewsbury won 2-1, the Railwaymen were 2-1 losers - may have you convinced we've lost the plot, however it's all about the bigger picture.

Shrewsbury's away form has been dismal and they've lost their last three on the road. The most recent of those, 4-3 against leaders Chesterfield, appears respectable, though it has a Tottenham-at-the-San-Siro style gleam given that they trailed 4-0 with 11 minutes remaining.

Their victory at the weekend shouldn't be regarded with too much significance either given that it came against bottom of the league Barnet and they were gifted both goals by Bees keeper Jake Cole.

Similarly, Crewe mustn't be dismissed on the basis of a defeat to title-chasing Port Vale, especially as it was their first reverse in a dozen League Two games. They've drawn too many at Gresty Road this season admittedly, but the visit of travel-shy Shrewsbury presents the perfect opportunity for them to buck that trend.

Our bet: We're backing Crewe to defeat Shrewsbury at [2.3], meaning that - before factoring in commission - we stand to win £13. Sign up for a new account now and have losing bets up to a total of £30 refunded for a week.
