La Liga newcomers shine on deadline day

Promoted Hercules remain [1.62] to last just a season in the Spanish top-flight despite completing two of the most unexpected and impressive signings of the transfer window over the last few days.

The capture of 71-time France international and Juventus' record foreign goalscorer David Trezeguet, still likely to have plenty to offer at the age of 32, on Monday was the big one, with the striker tempted to make the surprise move because his girlfriend's family are based in Alicante.

However, the Hercules transfer gurus refused to commence patting one another on the back and celebrating a brilliant piece of business and instead went back into the market and brought in Real Madrid's Royston Drenthe on loan.

The left-sided Dutchman was linked with a number of Premier League clubs over the summer, as well as Benfica, so his decision to join the La Liga newcomers was a bit of a shock.

The Valencian side haven't survived a season in the top tier since 1984-85, but if you fancy them to buck that trend with the help of their glamorous new arrivals then you can lay them for the drop at [2.0].

Before the midweek excitement provided by Trezeguet and Drenthe, they got off to a rather underwhelming start, losing 1-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao. Next up after the international break is the rather more daunting test of Barcelona away!

Will Trezeguet help inspire an unthinkable victory over the champions at the Nou Camp? Tell us below...
