Lampard 4/1 to end England goal drought

Frank Lampard will captain England from kick-off for the first time in his international career this evening and Betfair have the best odds offered anywhere on the Chelsea midfielder marking the occasion with a goal, with a tenner on him at [5.2] promising a £37 return if he finds the net.

The 32-year-old has a strike rate of close to a goal every four games for his country but hasn't scored since his brace in the 5-1 victory over Croatia way back in September 2009, so long ago that Fabio Capello was still being treated as England's best manager since Sir Alf Ramsay rather than as a joke.

This is the Blues vice-captain's longest run without a goal at international level since he first netted in a friendly against Croatia in August 2003 and 2010 was only the second year since then that he'd failed to score once, though of course there was a rather controversial incident against Germany at the World Cup.

If you fancy Lampard's partner in the middle, Jack Wilshere, to score on his first start then odds of [13.0] on the Arsenal youngster firing at any time are available. His Gunners team-mate Theo Walcott is [5.3] to justify the praise Capello has rained on him recently by getting among the goals.
