Is this it for Lampard's England career?

After two games and seven goals it looks like Fabio Capello has found a system that works - great news for England, but it could be bad news for Frank Lampard.

You may not have noticed, but some people think Lampard and Steven Gerrard can't play together in midfield. Until now it's always been Gerrard who's had to make way in the middle of the park - but that could be about to change.

Whilst they weren't his two greatest performances, Gerrard looked far more comfortable than he has in a good while for the Three Lions, and seemed far more like the player who turns out for Liverpool most weeks.

Having Gareth Barry holding for him allowed Gerrard to link up with Wayne Rooney which gave the team a far more balanced look than in the World Cup.

However, England were also the top scorers in World Cup qualifying - averaging 3.4 goals a game - and that counted for very little against Germany in South Africa. Bulgaria and Switzerland are hardly in the same class as the Germans, so against the truly world class sides, two holding midfielders may still be needed.

But in the meantime, what of Lampard? It's going to be hard for Capello to leave the Chelsea man out when he returns to fitness, especially when you consider he's now scored 20 goals for six consecutive seasons from midfield - an absolutely incredible return.

However, time is running out for the 32-year-old, and Capello may be forced sacrifice one of his best players in order to create the best team possible for their assault on Euro 2012.

Is there still a place for Lampard in the England squad? Or is this just another false dawn? Let us know what you think below?
