Last In, First Out

Tradefair's man in the city takes the temperature after another week of redundancies...

I am him. Thats me that is. They all look. Johnny-Boy tells me it can't be me because the picture isn't fat enough. I laugh very hard. It is me in the picture. I point at my face. Laughing.

That's me laughing in the background of today's newspaper's picture of traders moaning about the fall in the stock market. I read it out aloud: "Shares and dollar dive as US faces slump. The crisis in the US...triggered by the collapse of the housing market and subsequent credit crunch...fuelled concerns the British economy was heading for a vicious slowdown of its own." I've got Jade to scan in the picture to the computers and send it to the chaps in the internal email. Want everyone to see it.

I tell Barry the junior that I've made the papers. "Sex crime again?" he asks.

I blush. I confess, I blush. "Not that again," I say. "It was a misunderstanding." Barry the junior looks blank. "Wind change and you'll stay like that," I tell him.

"The wind is changing," he says. And smirks.

He won't last. I look at the story next to my picture, "The FTSE 100 index fell more than 100 points before recovering slightly to end down 84 points at 5692.4 and was followed down by stock markets across Europe. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 27.7 at 12,082.6 in New York at 5.30pm."

Last in, first out.
