Good betting is like a good burglary. Get in, help yourself, and get out before things turn nasty
Our expert blitzes the markets and helps you develop a winning strategy...
With the bank holiday weekend behind us, we have a day less trading this week, which means there must be some frantic catching-up to do. Wasting no time, I decided to jump into a number of different markets this week.
My general strategy for the day was to get in and get out speedily. These bets would be a matter of minutes, with the aim to make a quick profit. I don't aim to spend more than an hour betting in total the entire day, but aim to get involved in at least four markets.
Some analysis I read over the weekend stated that after the bleak and black market outlook last week, the next few days should see an upturn. As a warm-up for the day, I started with the FTSE 100 daily, jumping into this at 5668, opting for a buy position for £10 a point. I opted out at 5673 which netted me a £50 gain.
Now after that initial success, I figured that this was going to be a very good week indeed. Next up was Gold rolling daily again, a buy position at 932.1 for £10 a decimal place. I piled in of this at 933.0 for a quick £90 profit. The run was going on.
My weekend's analysis also indicated that the general European and American markets should also rise so on that basis, so a few hours later I lumped on the DAX Rolling Daily, £10.00 a point at 6521 which I sold at 6529 - another £80 profit.
The Wall Street rolling daily was now too tempting to resist. I got involved in a buy at £10 a point at 12548. I eventually sold this at 12580, a nice 32 point gain and a £320 profit, my biggest win of the day so far, as befitting an American bet, where everything and everyone is that much bigger.
In both of the latter bets, the markets did actually drop before rising again, ultimately closing at a position of profit. The key thing here was patience - this is always the most difficult part of any betting day, especially as the negative increased quite a bit before turning back to profit. Dax and Wall St are also markets that move incredibly quickly, and hence require more of a watching eye than the good old FTSE. The trick, as ever, is not to panic.
All in all a good start to my week - enjoy yours, and be lucky.
