A Novice's Story

New to all this are you sir? Well you're not the only one...

In Mark Twain's great novel, 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,' the young Huck Finn undergoes a great transition - from a young, naïve boy, into a man. This process involved running away from home, elaborately faking his own death and narrowly avoiding death in a gunfight, not to mention various conflicts with Southern racists, and countless passing rogues.

Yet Twain warned at the beginning of his tale, "Persons attempting to find a motive in this narrative will be prosecuted; persons attempting to find a moral in it will be banished; persons attempting to find a plot in it will be shot." It appears Huck Finn's journey was not meant as an example to the future generations. So where can a modern boy find his own great adventure, and in the process, become a man?

After weeks, nay months, of casting the net around for an alternative rites of passage, despondency had set in. I had tried it all - fishing, shooting, even shooting fish, all to no avail. But finally, just as I was adapting to the idea of forever being a child, I found my unobstructed path to manhood - www.tradefair.com.

You see, I've always liked a bet; football, cricket, anything with a ball, anything without a ball even. And I love my Betfair, the website that has justified on its own the invention of the internet (lets be honest, the rest is all porn and bomb-making instructions.). But I was looking for an extra dimension, something that would bring back that opiate-like rush when I first discovered it all.

Just one problem - I know more about marine biology than big finance. And I know nothing about marine biology. Now I imagine many of you are in a similar position - love sport, love Betfair, and fancy enhancing your portfolio of betting activity, but are quite frankly terrified of taking a leap into the unknown. Well lets do it together. 'I want to hold your hand' as Paul McCartney once said, although one imagines he has learnt his lesson and hasn't said this for a while.

I intend to speculate around £50 per week on my Tradefair account, the bulk of which will be on the spreads although I will be casting my nascent eye over the binary bets too. Throughout the course of this blog, I'll be keeping you abreast of my ups and downs, as well as regaling you with tales of my struggles with this new concept.

It could be something beautiful.
