Yorkshire coach Martyn Moxon says England captain Michael Vaughan is recovering well from a broken finger and may face the West Indies.
The 32-year-old picked up the injury when he was struck by a delivery from Australian paceman Stuart Clark, while batting for Yorkshire against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl on May 3.
The skipper was expected to be ruled out for one month, which meant he would be unable to feature in England's first Test against the West Indies that gets underway at Lord's next Thursday, May 17.
However after using a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to speed up the healing process, Moxon insists Vaughan could be ready to lead his country.
He said: "He has definitely improved since it happened last week. I don't know whether they've made a decision or not, but he's getting better.
"I've not had a chance to speak to him yet today but hopefully we'll know by early next week."
With or without Vaughan, England will go into the first Test as strong favourites especially due to the Windies poor form away from the Caribbean.
The home side are currently on offer at 1.73 to win at Lord's, with the tourists available to back at 8 and the draw is trading at 3.25.
