England received their first defeats of the summer against Australia but will be looking to regain their momentum when they take on Bangladesh. Andrew Hughes previews Thursday's first one day international at Trent Bridge

Venue and Conditions

In the last ten one day international matches played at Trent Bridge, the average score was 239. However, it is worth noting that the outfield was re-laid in 2008 and in two game since then, the team batting first have scored 299 and 296, with last year's pitch also offering a reasonably hard surface and true bounce. Thursday is forecast to be cloudy so there may be some help for swing bowlers, but essentially, this is a good pitch to bat on.

Team News

England are without the injured Kevin Pietersen and the resting Graeme Swann. Ian Bell and James Tredwell are the most likely replacements and Ajmal Shahzad may also be given a run out, after his impressive recent performances for the Lions.

Bangladesh have a new captain since we last saw them, or rather, they've returned to an old one, Mashrafe Mortaza, with Shakib Al Hasan returned to the ranks at his own request. The only change they are likely to make from the team that beat Middlesex is fast bowler Rubel Hossain coming in for Faisal Hossain.

Match Odds

England have played Bangladesh eleven times in one day internationals and won all eleven, the only one of the Test playing nations not to have lost to the Tigers in this format. You could make a case for saying that this isn't a bad chance for the tourists to break that duck. England lost momentum with two defeats to Australia, and have key players injured, rested or out of form.

By contrast, Bangladesh are at full strength. As we saw in the Test series, they have some exciting batsmen and the return of Mortaza gives them more bite in their bowling. This is their format and, given that most of these players were here for the Test series, they should be thoroughly acclimatised. At odds of [1.12] England make no appeal and if you're feeling adventurous, dabble with the tourists at [8.8].

Top Batsman

Craig Kieswetter had a poor series against Australia and at the likely odds does not appeal as a betting proposition, even against Bangladesh. It will be interesting to see how Ian Bell performs in place of Pietersen, but the solid selection for top England batsman, given that Paul Collingwood and Eoin Morgan may not get too much time at the crease, is Andrew Strauss who scored a blistering 152 against these opponents on this ground back in 2005. The England captain is likely to be [4.0] or so.

Tamim Iqbal will rightly be all the rage for the top Bangladeshi batsman and he looked exciting against Middlesex before holing out. But if you want to look elsewhere, Imrul Kayes also looked in good touch in that game and should be available at around [6.0]

Featured Market

The average highest score in the last ten one day internationals here is 89 and since the outfield was relaid, both games have featured centuries so it could be worth backing 'Over 82.5 Runs' in the Highest Individual Score market at [2.0] or better.

Andrew Hughes says: Back 'Over 82.5 Runs' in the Highest Individual Score Market at [2.0]
