Graeme Ford's first task as the expected new coach of India will be to rally his troops ahead of the upcoming three-Test series in England.
The South African was recommended by the committee charged with finding a successor to Greg Chappell and is widely tipped to get the nod ahead of former England spinner John Emburey after both men put their cases forward in Chennai.
However, Ford needs county side Kent, with whom he is currently under contract as their cricket director, to sanction the move before he can take up the reins.
A BCCI statement read: "The committee constituted to select the next India coach has met and it was decided that the name of Graham Ford would be put forward for the job.
"It is now for the working committee of the BCCI, which meets in Delhi on June 12, to make the appointment final.
"The term of the coach will be for one year to start with."
India have been looking for a coach since Australian Chappell resigned after the World Cup and begin their new era under Ford in England on Thursday July 19 at Lord's.
However, Betfair punters do not believe Ford is likely to mark his reign with a series win as India currently trade at 3.65 in a developing "England v India - Test Series Winner" market.
England are available as the 1.94 favourites, with the drawn series on offer at 4.4.
