It's Dhoni v Tendulkar in the battle of the captains and Flintoff v Jayasuriya in the battle of the all-rounders, says Andrew Hughes. Best bet: Back Mumbai Indians to beat Chennai Super Kings @ [2.2].
Team News
The only selection issues for Chennai are choosing which of the lesser Indian players opens the batting with Hayden and deciding between Murali and Ntini for the fourth overseas player slot. With offspinner Ashwin in form, it could be Murali who misses out. Flintoff and Albie Morkel will play in the middle order. Mumbai open with Jayasuriya and Tendulkar, followed by Dhawan and big name signing Duminy. One of the foreign all-rounders, Bravo, McClaren or Napier will slot in at five, leaving only one more overseas spot to be filled by Malinga, Fernando or Mills.
Conditions
Newlands, Cape Town is one of the most beautiful venues in the world and the outfield should be pristine for this opening game. You should also bear in mind that in recent times, teams batting first there have fared best, with all four domestic Twenty20 games this year going to the team which had first knock.
Match Odds
Chennai are a popular bet in the winners market so it is perhaps not surprising they are as short as [1.75] to win this game. But the lesson of IPL 2008 was that backing teams at short odds was a risky business and with a side that includes Tendulkar, Jayasuriya and Duminy, Mumbai are a stand out bet at [2.26]. An alternative strategy would be to wait for the toss and simply back the team batting first.
Top Bat
For Chennai, Hayden hit form in the warm-up games and Suresh Raina was impressive in New Zealand. Either would be worth backing at [4.5] or higher. For Mumbai, you shouldn't look much further than the dominant opening pair of Tendulkar and Jayasuriya with the big hitting Sri Lankan the best bet at around [4.2]

Total fours is one of many interesting Betfair markets. Over the last couple of seasons, the average number of fours per game at Newlands is 24. Allowing a little leeway, it could be worth laying the '35 and over' option in the Total Fours market.
