is the latest injury concern for England ahead of this month's opening Test against the West Indies.
The Hampshire batsman has picked up a calf muscle problem whilst playing for his county in their one-day clash with Ireland.
The injury has ruled Pietersen out of Hampshire's Championship game with Lancashire and the player admits he is concerned by the injury.
The 26-year-old said: "It is extremely annoying. The muscle is torn and I'll have to see how it responds to treatment before I know if I'll be able to play.
He added: "What I do know is that I'm desperate not to miss it and will do everything I can to get fit."
ECB officials say the injury will be assessed later this week, but it doesn't look good for the world's top one-day batsman with Pietersen joining Michael Vaughan in the treatment room.
Despite all the injury concerns, England are still seen as strong favourites to win the first Test at Lord's (May 17). Peter Moores' side are trading at 1.73, with the tourists on offer at 8.2 and the draw can be backed at 3.25.
