Former Zimbabwe wicket-keeper Andy Flower has been appointed as assistant to England coach Peter Moores.

The 39-year-old replaces Matthew Maynard with immediate effect, after retiring as a player with Essex.

Moores has stated that Flower was always his number one choice for the role as his assistant and feels he will have a 'significant impact on the future' of the team.

Flower, who has been working with the England Academy, is looking forward about his new role with the senior squad.
The former Test player said: "I hold Peter Moores in the highest regard and believe that his selection as England head coach was an inspired choice.

"From my time working with Peter at the National Academy, I know that we shall work very well together and I am excited about entering into this new challenge of coaching an international team."

Flower will join up straight away with Moores as England prepare for the first Test against West Indies, at Lord's on May 17.
The home side are strong favourites to win the first Test, with England currently trading at 1.69. The tourists can be backed at 8.4 while the draw is available at 3.35.
