No cover is neccessary for Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff is getting there, says England selector.

England have named an unchanged Test squad for the start of the npower series against South Africa.

National selector Geoff Miller announced the dozen names at Lord's this lunchtime.

Captain Michael Vaughan has been troubled by soreness in his right knee but the selectors did not deem batting cover necessary.

Miller said: "Michael had a few twinges and niggles with his knee but they are not serious. We have not alerted any (potential) replacements in case there is a problem (with Michael Vaughan). We know the kind of player we would want and we would just call them in if it was necessary."

Geoff Miller added that despite making his County Championship return for Lancashire earlier in the week, there would be no Test recall just yet for Andrew Flintoff, although the door remains open for a place in the squad for the all-rounder for the second Test at Headingley.

"He is getting there," said Miller. "Until recently he had no form with the bat but it is with the ball that he is paramount to us and that seems to be going in the right direction.

"We have got a lot of cricket coming up and when the time is right we will looks to bring Andrew Flintoff back into the side."

Miller also acknowledged the healthy competition for places in English cricket. He said:

"We have to take one test at a time and continue in the winning way. There will be one or two new players knocking on the door and that is a good problem to have."

You can back England at [3.15] to win the series and South Africa at [2.12].
