England will hand a late fitness test to Andrew Flintoff before naming their side to take on the West Indies in the first Test at Lords', which gets underway on Thursday.

Flintoff is struggling with an ankle injury picked up while playing for Lancashire against Hampshire earlier in the week and was unable to train fully with the rest of the England squad on Tuesday.

The all-rounder will now undergo a fitness test on Wednesday and if he fails it, England will have to decide whether to draft in Middlesex batsman Owais Shah or go with an extra bowler in the form of James Anderson.

"He didn't bowl," a team spokesman said after training on Tuesday. "He will on Wednesday and we will assess his chances of playing then."

Flintoff is currently trading at 22 to finish the first Test as England's leading runscorer with Kevin Pietersen favourite at 3.

The Lancastrian is also available at 4.3 to finish as England's top wicket taker, but everything depends on whether he is passed fit.
