Andrew Flintoff is set for a pep talk from new England coach Peter Moores who is eager to get the all-rounder playing as well as he did in 2005.
Flintoff has been criticised after a dramatic loss of form with the bat and gained unwanted negative publicity for his off-field behaviour.
But Moores, who has taken charge of the England side after the World Cup disappointment, told Radio Five Live's Sportsweek programme that he is not giving up on Flintoff.
"I will be speaking to Andrew in the next week to find out what helps him play the way he likes.
"He loves playing for his country. We have seen some unbelievable innings from him and some unbelievable spells [of bowling].
"You try to get the individual comfortable playing for their country where they can produce their best.
"We have a player who has played some fantastic aggressive vibrant cricket.
"The key is to get that out of him again and get him enjoying the game again."
The Lancashire star was named in the 25-man England performance squad for the summer series against West Indies and India.
But he could still play a role for his county as they bid to claim the County Championship for the first time since 1955.
Lancashire are available at 4.3 in Betfair's fledgling County Championship Winner's market, behind Hampshire (3.2) and early-season table-toppers Yorkshire (3.65).
