Middlesex paceman Chris Silverwood was delighted to have made a full contribution to his side's crushing seven-wicket win over Somerset at Lord's.
The former England fast bowler took 9-62 in the match as the north Londoners wrapped up victory on Saturday morning, scoring the 66 runs they required before lunch at headquarters.
The match will be remembered for Somerset skipper Justin Langer's bizarre decision to declare his first innings on 50-8 to try and give his bowlers a chance to make use of the seamer-friendly conditions.
The plan backfired and, despite rallying in the second innings, Somerset were easily beaten by one of their rivals to gain promotion to the first division.
Former Yorkshire star Silverwood was pleased to get one over on their rivals, who scored an incredible 850 when the two sides met at Taunton in their first clash this season.
"Somerset are one of the teams we have to beat in this division if we are to get promoted and we are closing the gap on Notts," he said.
"This was always going to be tough after the first game at Taunton where we had a long time in the field. It was great to come here and find there was something for the bowlers and get some wickets."
Middlesex are one of the favourites, along with Somerset, to gain promotion this term in an undeveloped market on Betfair, while Northants are also fancied to do well.
