Pakistan leg-spinner Danish Kaneria said he hoped to keep Essex on the "winning track" after signing a new one-year contract with the county.
The new contract will take Kaneria, who has taken 62 wickets in all competitions so far this season, into his fourth season with Essex - currently in third place behind Nottinghamshire and Somerset in the Friends Provident Trophy: South Conference table.
Kaneria, who has also taken 18 wickets in the Friends Provident Trophy, said he was delighted to extend his stay with Essex and that he was hoping for continued success with them.
Essex can be backed at 7.6 on Betfair's developing "Division Two - Winner" market, with leaders Nottinghamshire the overwhelming 1.88 favourites to claim the title.
Kaneria said: "I'm delighted because I love to be with the Essex team. I am an Essex man now and enjoy being over here.
"By the grace of God all of the negotiations with [chief executive] David East have gone well and I've been signed again for the coming year with Essex.
"I'm learning day by day and getting better all the time. In the years to come I hope to give better performances than I am giving now to take this team on the winning track all the time."
The agreement still has to be approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board, but they do not currently have any international cricket scheduled between the Asia Cup in April 2008 and the ICC Champions Trophy in September.
"We are obviously very pleased that Danish has decided to play for Essex again in 2008," said chief executive East.
"Danish is a world-class player who is doing a fabulous job and is clearly enjoying his cricket - which is evident from his results and the smile on his face."
