Steve Harmison is hoping to get through England's upcoming Test against India before having surgery on a hernia.
The Durham fast bowler played through the pain of a lump in his groin on his home ground to help England triumph over the West Indies, with the problem described by the ECB as "a non-serious hernia".
Harmison accepts he will have to go under the knife at some stage but is hoping he can delay it until the end of end of India's tour of England, for which Peter Moores' men are the 2.14 favourites on Betfair's "England v India Test Series Winner" market.
India and the draw are available to back at 3.65.
Harmison said: "Ideally I don't want to miss any Test matches but I want to be bowling at 90 miles an hour and not 80.
"So, if I'm bowling quickly in the next week or so then I'll go as far as the end of the India series.
"We'll see how it goes over the next few days. If we can get through to the end of the summer that would be great."
An England spokesman said: "It is not currently affecting his bowling.
"He will require surgery at some stage but the timing of it will be decided by the England medical team."
