Sussex veteran Murray Goodwin engineered one of the greatest comebacks ever in domestic English cricket as the Sussex Sharks were matched at odds of 130 on Betfair to successfully chase Nottinghamshire's total of 220 in the winner-takes-all decider of the Pro 40 Division One tournament.
Having made a decent start to the run chase, Sussex wickets then fell at regular intervals with England spinners Patel and Swann the chief tormentors for the Outlaws. At 130-8 and needing 96 runs at more than 10 an over, Murray Goodwin was joined at the crease by Pakistani bowler Mohammad Sami at which point Sussex were matched at odds of [160.0] on Betfair for £130, whilst Notts were being matched at [1.01] for £266k, [1.02] for £223k and [1.03] for £48k.
Needing 16 to win off the last over, a fortunate edge for four by Sami and exquisite strokeplay by Goodwin then left Sussex needing four to win off the last ball (with three resulting in a tie) - at which point Notts were available at [1.46] and Sussex at [3.0] as the bowler was running up. Big occasion, big temperament as far as Goodwin was concerned and he duly dispatched the final delivery for a towering six over long-on to finish unbeaten on 87 with Sami ending on 32.
