Batting collapse sees England fall to first Test defeat

England's first Test capitulation to New Zealand will have come as a shock to the draw backers on Betfair who were prepared to take a lowest price of [1.07] on the exchange.

That price was taken on Friday night with the game seemingly headed towards stalemate with a benign pitch offering little to either set of bowlers. A Ryan Sidebottom hat-trick changed all that and New Zealand's subsequent declaration offered England a sniff of victory.

But, in true England fashion, they were skittled out for just 110 runs with just Ian Bell offering any sort of resistance.

The New Zealand win was backed at a high price on Betfair of [19.0]. England touched a low of 1.8 for victory during the Test.

Daniel Vettori's team are now [1.75] favourites to win the three Test series. England, having traded at [1.58] are [5.8] to win the next two Tests.
