Australia have confirmed that vice-captain
will be available for the start of the World Cup following the birth of his third child, Archie, on Saturday.
The prolific one-day opening batsman missed the recent Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series defeat to New Zealand to be with his wife, Melinda.
But Gilchrist is now expected to meet up with the rest of the squad before their first warm-up game against Zimbabwe in St Vincent on 6 March.
It was feared he would not be available until his side's third and crucial fixture against South Africa on 24 March, prompting selectors to pick a reserve wicket-keeper, Brad Haddin, but Cricket Australia said in a statement: "Adam will be available for selection for the entire 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup."
Gilchrist, who has scored 8,585 runs with 14 centuries, said: "Melinda and Archie are fit and well and our thanks go to all the staff at the hospital."
Gilchrist's inclusion is one spot of positive news for Australia following the news that Brett Lee will miss cricket's showpiece event because of injury, while crocked duo Andrew Symonds and Matthew Hayden remain on the critical list.
Gilchrist is available at 15 to finish the World Cup as Top Runscorer market, behind his countryman and captain, Ricky Ponting (9), but ahead of Mike Hussey on offer at 26.
Australia remain favourites to win the tournament for the third time on the bounce at 3.5 and are also available at 1.72 to emerge from Group A as winners.
