Gymnastics in Ipswich

Since November 1999 Gymnastics in Ipswich have been evolving at the purpose built facility located nears Gainsborough.

Having started with approximately 400 children taking part in the gymnastic sessions each week, the initiative has grown at an exponential rate with over 2,500 now attending each week.

The initiative has also been taken into schools across Ipswich, giving some 30,000 children the opportunity to experience gymnastics through basic coaching, leveraging the facilities of each school.

The scheme has recently started to offer a class tailored towards people with learning and physical disabilities, promoting their total inclusion policy.

The application to Cash 4 Clubs saw Gymnastics in Ipswich receive a much needed £1,000 to replace a broken set of parallel bars.

Andy Wood, a committee member and coach said "As a charity all money that comes in is spent directly on the centre, so any extra that we need for things such as new equipment we have to raise through fund raising activities and grant applications. The Cash 4 Clubs grant has been a great help and allows our project to continue at the rate we would like."

East Anglian Sailing Trust

The East Anglian Sailing Trust provides disabled East Anglians and their carers with regular opportunities to access and enjoy sailing activities whilst promoting enhanced independence, confidence and community involvement.

With nearly 100 members, the trust provides a team of volunteers who manage three existing programmes which enable disabled sailors to get afloat in safe and suitable boats from wheelchair accessible pontoons at Suffolk Yacht Harbour.

The club has recently acquired a new keelboat for 2008, which volunteers have been maintaining over the winter months so that members with the appropriate skills will be able to sail on the rivers Orwell and Stour to expand their time on the water.

The club applied to Cash 4 Clubs for the vital funds needed to fully equip the vessel with the appropriate safety and communications equipment required for disabled sailing.

William Smith, a trustee of the club said "the £1,000 has had a huge impact on our club. From this grant we have been able to fully equip our new Yeoman 20' keelboat, providing a much larger variety of options for our members."

Colchester Rovers Cycling Club

Colchester Rovers Cycling Club has been running for over 20 years and is committed to encouraging all walks of life to get involved in cycling.

For the cost of just £1 per person, riders can go along on Monday evenings and the club will provide the bike, helmet and an enjoyable session on the well maintained grass circuit.

This opportunity can only be provided due to a small number of dedicated club members giving up their time throughout the summer.

The Colchester Rovers Cycling club was awarded £1,000 by Cash 4 Clubs to purchase new bikes and support the continued growth of the superb initiative.

David Triggs, a coach at the club said "The new bikes have enabled more riders to take part in each session, with fewer riders having to share. Now that we have these extra assets we can actively promote the club, whereas before we were hesitant as we would have struggled to accommodate more riders. Thank you!"

Ipswich Basketball

Ipswich Basketball is one of the most rapidly growing basketball clubs in the East of England. In the last two years it has grown from 50 talented players to over 90, and has added over 200 community registered players.

Basketball is a sport with a very strong focus on discipline and teamwork, and the training at Ipswich Basketball is structured to re-enforce these aspects. The club has been instrumental in helping to reform some once troublesome teenagers into exemplary members of the squad by integrating them into a well defined structure and promoting teamwork as a key to success.

The club has a very record of involving parents in the running of the club and developing the players into future coaches and officials. The parents of each team work hard to raise the funds necessary for these qualifications and some players have now achieved Level 1 standard in coaching and officiating.

The club is looking to expand and applied to Cash4Clubs to raise the funds necessary to initiate a new women's team aimed at the 16+ league, the classic age for girls to drop out of exercise.

Bernard Ball commented on the scheme "We are permanently raising money ourselves through the weekly player subscriptions and fund raising events, however external sponsorship is also critical for us if we are to develop the programmes. The £1,000 provided by Cash4Clubs has greatly helped our cause so thank you for your support!"

The aims of Deben Swimming Club are to promote the sport of swimming by providing a structured teaching and training program to help swimmers reach their full competitive potential according to their individual levels of ambition, ability and application.

The club has recently started two sections within the club, Mini Polo! and Junior Polo. The club applied to Cash 4 Clubs to get the required money to support these new initiatives which includes the cost of required additional equipment as well as additional pool time.

Jo Cotton from the club committee said "Cash 4 Clubs has really helped us to purchase the vital equipment such as balls, head protectors and goals needed to run our new polo teams. The success of this section of the club has shown that members do not have to be competitive swimmers to be members of a successful swimming club. The players are learning to work as a team and are having great fun learning this new sport."

Cash 4 Clubs has been set up to facilitate fundraising for community sports clubs throughout the country.

Sport in the community is about local people, local facilities, local groups and organisations providing opportunities for the enjoyment of sport.

We recognise the importance of community sport and in order to maintain its development, we are giving clubs a unique chance to raise the money they need to improve facilities, purchase new equipment, improve coaching staff qualifications, nurture young talent... the list is endless!

There are two ways for you to earn money for your club, the Big Cash Giveaway and Refer And Earn; why not try both!

Betfair's Cash for Clubs awards its first grants

Earlier in the year Cash 4 Clubs awarded its first grants to deserving community sports clubs in Suffolk and Essex. The winners and their worthy causes were:

Pipers Vale Gymnastics Club, who were in desperate need of funds to replace broken equipment

Ipswich Basketball Club, who were looking to form a women's basketball team

Deben Swimming Club, who needed extra cash to develop their Mini Polo!

Colchester Rovers Cycling Club, who wanted to purchase new bikes for their grass track sessions and enable more children to try cycling safely

East Anglian Sailing Trust, who needed to kit out a new boat with the right safety and communications equipment and enable more people with disabilities to have access to sailing.

Georgina Hard of Betfair commented:

"Cash for Clubs proved really popular in East Anglia and the money awarded to these five very deserving clubs will hopefully make a huge difference. Betfair is passionate about sport at all levels. We are delighted to be able to make such a commitment to supporting the development of community sport and we look forward to seeing how this impacts the organisations and their wider communities."
