Quick Step must move fast if they are to win a stage at this year's Tour
"Tyler Farrar might be Cavendish's closest rival on a wide, straight finish that could bring on a drag race"
Mark Cavendish had no excuse for getting beaten in yesterday's sprint finish. Tobias Gourlay sees that as a good thing for his chances in today's stage
Mark Cavendish lost a sprint finish to Andre Greipel, his old HTC understudy, for the first time yesterday. The Manxman took it on the chin - 'Well, that's me beaten,' he told Twitter - and we must do likewise.
Cavendish is still a [1.80] favourite for today's stage, which takes the Tour from Blaye-les-Mines to Lavaur. The race enters the Pyrenees tomorrow and this is one of only three remaining stages that encourage a bunch sprint. HTC's Tony Martin will be on cruise control as he prepares for the mountains and an assault on the top ten of the GC, but the rest of Cavendish's lead-out train will be working as hard as ever. And the man himself will redouble his efforts.
Tyler Farrar ([15.0]) might be his closest rival on a wide, straight finish that could bring on a drag race, but long before he roars into view the cameras will be focused on the day's breakaway.
Who will be involved? We mentioned yesterday that Sky, Astana and the wildcard teams have good reasons to put riders in any breakaway. There is yet another one to consider: Quick Step. The Belgian team's focus is stage wins. The sprinters, Tom Boonen and Gerald Ciolek, are yards behind Cavendish, Farrar and the others. Their strongest breakaway artist, Sylvain Chavanel, is still recovering from a crash last week. Which leaves Jerome Pineau, who is a [150.0] shot today. If he makes a move, you'll immediately be able to lay him for profit, however unsuccessful the breakaway.
Best Bet: Back Mark Cavendish @ [1.80] to be Stage 11 Winner
Recommended Bet: Back-to-lay Jerome Pineau @ [150.0] to be Stage 11 Winner
