Mark Cavendish got it right yesterday and so did Tobias Gourlay. Both must now avoid being swept up by the broom wagon as the Tour enters the Pyrenees

Lars Boom, who we backed-to-lay on Tuesday, made it into Wednesday's breakaway and could have been backed pre-stage at [150.0], then laid around [12.0] when he was out front alone with 2km to go. Perhaps he only got the idea after reading this column. In future, Lars, be aware that we publish the night before the stage we are covering. There's no excuse for being a day late.

Anyway, Boom went bust in the end and our man Mark Cavendish immediately avenged Tuesday's defeat to Andre Greipel, winning a straightforward Stage 11 sprint into Lavaur. The Manxman's patience will now be tried again as the Tour enters the Pyrenees and the next sprint finish is not until Montpellier on Sunday.

The top of today's Stage Winner market looks a lot like the top of the overall Winner market: Alberto Contador, Andy Schleck and Cadel Evans lead the betting. The Spaniard is the favourite because he has the reputation for being the best climber. If his knee is okay, he will attack at some point. But is his knee okay? [3.65] seems a short price at which to say both, yes, his knee is okay and, yes, he can beat everyone else up the Tourmalet and into Luz-Ardiden.

Samuel Sanchez ([20.0]) might be the best climber outside of those three. His Euskaltel Euskadi team lost time in the team time trial and, as the favourites keep both eyes on each other, they might not respond to his attacks.

Rigoberto Uran of Sky was mentioned on the day his team mate Juan Antonio Flecha broke away and got mown down by a TV car. Uran must have been told to save himself for the higher mountains that arrive today.

Best Bet: Back Samuel Sanchez @ [20.0] to be Stage 12 Winner
Recommended Bet: Back Rigoberto Uran @ [60.0] to be Stage 12 Winner
