Steve Davis could be set for an early exit
"In their past 20 games, King and Davis have sunk only one three figure break between them so I’m surprised to see the highest break spreads exceeding 100."
Mark King proved his battling qualities at the Masters and John Woodford believes he will be too good for the one of the games greats in Sheffield on Monday...
Having lost seven of his last 10 games, Steve Davis has to be opposed in Monday's 7pm contest against Mark King. No world beater himself, King's composure at The Masters amongst a raucous atmosphere, welcoming the return of Jimmy White, showed great composure. Whilst White's chances of winning were always slim, snooker is a game of bottle and King showed it well there.
The head to heads favour Davis 3-2 but I haven't seen the hunger which was so apparent in his resurgence of form in 2007-2008. This will no doubt be a pressure pot, but I take King to edge out by three or four frames.
Betting opportunities in Monday's other games look tricky and despite the fact China Open winner Mark J Williams and Ronnie O'Sullivan are both in action, it is match two I'm staying with for Monday's second play. In their past 20 games, King and Davis have sunk only one three figure break between them (of exactly 100) and for this reason I'm somewhat surprised to see the highest break spreads exceeding 100.
Of course, there is always the danger that Davis will roll back the years in the space of one frame to sink those going short on a big break. However, early high-street prices indicate [1.9] for under 101.5; anything bigger than [1.85] for Betfair's 103.5 offers some fairly sound value.
Recommended bets:
2 pts Win Mark King [1.5]
0.5 pts Under 103.5 [1.85] Highest Match Break
