World Championship Snooker Betting: Will there be a 147?

There were two maximum breaks at last year's World Championships and that has ensured the layers are offering little value with the current price of [2.02]. But Paul Krishnamurty may have a system to land a profit...

As a consequence of the two maximums scored at the last World Championships, this year's odds about a 147 break are much shorter than ever seen before. Whereas [2.8] was available in 2008, this time its just [2.02]. Considering the historical stats of just seven maximums in the last 17 renewals, those are very poor odds.

However, whilst I could only be a layer at that opening quote, it can pay to see this market as a useful trading vehicle over the 17 days. For even if a maximum isn't scored, it's a stone-cold certainty that somebody has a good run at one. If, for instance, one of the top players hits 12 reds and 12 blacks with the remaining balls fairly open, 'Yes' would surely trade at odds-on.

So my advice is to lay for starters, then assuming there isn't one in the first few days, back 'Yes' when it drifts out. Then place an order on the exchange to lay at odds-on, and hope somebody has a good chance at some stage over the remainder of the event. There's every chance you'll get the lower lay order matched, and even if that bid for the 147 ultimately fails, you should be all green and free to start the system over again.

Complicated? Maybe, but it's a strategy that has worked in each of the last five years since I started following it.
