Alex Lee tackles Monday's snooker at the Barbican Centre in York and he predicts a tougher-than-expected first round encounter for Judd Trump

Fans' favourite Judd Trump takes on Dominic Dale this afternoon in a contest that, judging by the prices on offer, should be a stroll in the Barbican Centre for the flair player who reached the World Championship final in May.

Look at the current form of the pair, however, and the game suddenly seems a lot more evenly-matched. Dale reached the final of the PTC 10 only a few days ago, taking a number of high-profile scalps on the way, and it is for this reason that I'll be backing him on the +2.5 frames market in this race to six clash.

On the other table, Northern Ireland's Mark Allen faces England's Adrian Gunnell. While Gunnell has the edge in terms of experience, Allen is one of snooker's more exciting young players and has enough potting prowess to progress to round two.

The evening's fixtures pair Mark Williams against Joe Jogia and Stephen Lee versus Ricky Walden. I'd expect the game's best single ball potter Williams to coast past Jogia, and the odds reflect this, but the Lee/Walden match could easily see a minor upset as Lee these days looks like he doesn't even want to be near a snooker table. I wouldn't say Walden is a certainty by any means, but I'd happily recommend taking him on the +1.5 handicap market at around [1.8] as I'd price both of these players at closer to even money.

Back Dale +2.5 @ [1.8] or better
Back Walden +1.5 @ [1.8] or better
