"My recommendation is to back Shaun at [1.51] to win the match along with a trading plan in the outright market."

Don't worry about Shaun Murphy's wobble in the last round, says Paul Krishnamurty. The Magician consistently produces his best snooker here and should be backed to prevail against Ricky Walden.

Former UK champions have been dropping like flies over the past few days, but having survived an almighty scare against Martin Gould yesterday, Shaun Murphy remains a live contender to land his second title. Holding what looked an unassailable 5-0 lead, Murphy contrived to lose the next four frames, and needed an extraordinary run of good fortune in the tenth to avoid a decider. Having had 24 hours to reflect, he should be able to take the positives out of it before tonight's quarter-final against Ricky Walden.

Murphy's performance against Gould really was a tale of two halves. To begin, he looked set to produce the best performance so far of this year's championship, yet by the end he looked completely gone. I would prefer to take the former as a guide, not least because the man amusingly dubbed "The Pride of Irthlingborough" has no shortage of pedigree when it comes to the biggest events. Time and again, he's produced his best snooker in either this or the World Championship, and during those scintillating early frames it appeared Murphy had timed his run into form to perfection. He wouldn't be the first player to take a big lead for granted, lose focus and end up crawling over the line. Such slip-ups are forgiveable, and barely an indicator of wellbeing.

That said, I wouldn't take anything away from his dangerous opponent, who was highly impressive in beating Mark Williams yesterday. Nevertheless, Walden lacks Murphy's wider pedigree and experience in big-match situations. My recommendation is to back Shaun at [1.51] to win the match along with a trading plan in the outright market. The idea is to take [9.0] to win the tournament, with a view to closing out for a profit, should he shorten to [3.0] later on.
