" It's a shame there isn't a market available on how quickly this game will finish, as Robertson and Allen both glide around the table like Usain Bolt on rollerskates."

While the Wizard of Wishaw, John Higgins, tends to save his best form for the World Championships in Sheffield these days, he has more than enough cue kudos to see off a player who has undergone a bit of a renaissance in recent times in Matthew Stevens.

Last season, the Welshman battled his way back into the top 16 on the back of reaching the latter stages of a number of ranking events. This tournament, however, might just be a bridge too far as he comes up against one of the all-time greats in Higgins. For once, the Betfair market almost exactly replicates that of the standard bookmakers and Higgins - who possesses one of the best all-round games in the world - is justifiably the favourite.

The other clash of the day is the more exciting one as it features two of the sport's more outspoken characters in Australian Neil Robertson and Northern Ireland's Mark Allen. Robertson got embroiled in a war of words with Ronnie O'Sullivan in last year's Power Snooker tournament, while Allen openly fell out with World Snooker supremo Barry Hearn regarding the new, shorter format of the UK Championship.

I'd price this pair a lot closer than the market has them, therefore Allen deserves a very close look on the +1.5 frames handicap market. It's a shame there isn't a market available on how quickly this game will finish, as this pair glide around the table like Usain Bolt on rollerskates.

Recommended Bets
Back Higgins to beat Stevens @ [1.5]
Back Allen +1.5 frames v Robertson @ [1.8]
