The Field need fear only the Rocket, says Tareq Quiroz as he takes a close look at one of the most intriguing World Championships markets.
One of the most interesting markets for this year's World Championships is the Big 4 v The Field offering. Gone are the days of individual domination and this is by no means a walk in the park for the top players. The market shows a slight edge towards the Big 4 but there isn't much in it.
The first thing you must note is who makes up the Big 4. It may sound simple but you will see straight away that it is the top three in the betting plus sixth favourite Shaun Murphy. The reason for this is so that the Big 4 consists of a player from each quarter.
I can see why the Big 4 edge favouritism in this market but let's not get carried away with the power of these players. Neither Mark Selby nor Stephen Maguire have won a World Championship, Murphy has not been in any real form and that leaves you batting with just Ronnie.
I'm sticking my neck out a little bit but I don't see Selby ever winning the world title. Maguire will one day but not until he finds a way to win when he isn't playing well. Murphy has had his day and I am confident he will never have another.
Ronnie is the problem for The Field. He is a three time world champion but on the flip side he has definitely underachieved in this event. You will also note that he has never defended the title successfully. All that said he is still a genius with cue in hand and you know what can happen if you take him on. I am, however, prepared to do just that and highly recommend the [2.16] about The Field. With the likes of Ding Junhui, John Higgins, Ali Carter and many more world class players with you it is definitely the side to be on.
