UFC126 - Anderson Silva v Vitor Belfort
Main Event
Few UFC cards inspire as much anticipation as UFC126. The main event of what should be a terrific evening is a middleweight title bout between the greatest MMA P4P fighter in the world Anderson "The Spider" Silva [1.41] and another equally impressive Brazilian fighter, Vitor "The Phenom" Belfort [3.25]. The latter, a former heavyweight champion with brilliant striking skills, has claimed decisive victories over some of the greatest and toughest mixed martial artists to have graced the sport. His opponent, the current champion, will attempt to retain his belt and add yet another successful title defense to his current UFC record of 14.
Silva comes off an impressive career high, beating former contender Chael Sonnen late in the fourth round of his last fight. Belfort boasts an impressive highlight reel and is no stranger in this position. He's used his speed to overcome great Champions. We could see an upset quickly.
Co-Main Event
Two Veterans, both former UFC Champions, meet at the octagon centre when Rich "Ace" Franklin [1.65] faces Forrest Griffin [2.44] in a war that promises to have the fans out of their chairs. Whilst their skill sets and attributes are identical, Franklin will enjoy a marginal speed advantage over the stronger, larger Griffin. This is a classic showdown between speed and size where Griffin will look to smother his smaller opponent. Franklin will look to use his speed to stick and move. He edges this given his recent victory over now retired Chuck Lidell with a quick KO, while nursing a broken arm. Composore will be key.
Also on the card
Two promising young guns, with the hunger to match their tremendous drive and skill in the cage, face off when Jon "Bones" Jones [1.37] meets Ryan "Darth" Bader [3.55] for a potentially classic bout. Both contenders stand to benefit from a victory in their toughest tests yet. These fighters have an excellent wrestling base with very effective striking and a thirst for finishing fights decisively. This mix of speed, power and unorthodox fighting styles will surely not allow this fight to go all three rounds. Witness the new breed of UFC right here.
