Almost £200,000 matched on Taylor at 1.05 or less

Phil Taylor was matched at [1.02] on Betfair when leading Wayne Mardle 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the PDC World Championship before being knocked out of the Alexander Palace razzamatazz.

"The Power" looked in cruise control and fans' favourite Wayne Mardle drifted to odds of 27 on the betting for the match and to odds of [180] on the outright winner market.

So dominant was Taylor that he traded at odds of just [1.8] in-running to win the match 5-0. Taylor backers were literally queuing up to back the most successful player in darts history at prohibitive odds with just under £200,000 matched on Taylor at odds of [1.05] or less.

The two flip-flopped for favouritism as the match went to a deciding set but it was Wardle who held his nerve to win by two clear legs.

Betfair spokesman James Pacheco: "Taylor's matches at the PDC World Championships this year have been rollercoaster rides as much on Betfair's markets as they have been for the fans at the Ally Pally. When "The Power" was matched at [1.02] it looked all over but Mardle backers will have no excuse for not paying their electricity bill on time after the Essex man turned the lights off on Taylor and his backers".

To win the PDC World Championship: Betfair bet: [3.15] Wayne Mardle, [3.2] John Part, [3.25] Kevin Painter, [12] Kirk Shepherd.
