Phil "The Power" Taylor survives a massive scare in the first round of the PDC against Van Gerwen and remains the favourite for overall victory
PHIL TAYLOR traded at a high of [4.0] for the match on Betfair, and [16] on the outright market, as he stared a first-round defeat in the face in the PDC World Darts Championship last night.
Taylor, who has not failed to reach the final of the event, was one dart away from defeat against Michael Van Gerwen in the fourth set.
But the Dutchman (who traded at a low of [1.27]) missed a double 12, and Taylor checked out on 57 to take the match into the deciding set.
In a fluctuating and tense finale, Taylor eventually won it 5-3.
Taylor is back into the [2.46] favourite on Betfair to win the tournament for a 14th time, after his close shave.
