Notable Jockeys: Perennial champion jockey and leader again this year Tony McCoy. A number of McCoy's pursuers in the jockeys championship: Robert Thornton (3rd), Tom Scudamore (5th), Tom O'Brien (7th) and Sam Thomas (8th).
Notable Horses: Redemption (4.10pm) is a former Grade 2 winning hurdler and has three wins to his name already this season. He takes on Archduke Ferdinand, who has won the Northumberland Plate in the past and is also a winner this season. Tampa Boy (3.10pm) has won two of his last 5 starts and been placed on the other three. He runs against Classic Role who ran in the Grade 1 Supreme Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham last year.

Notable Jockeys: Grand National winning riders Timmy Murphy and Paul Carberry. Richard Johnson and Paddy Brennan, 2nd and 4th in the jockeys championship respectively.
Notable Horses: Nigel Twiston-Davies has won 2 of the last 4 runnings of the 2.20pm race. He runs Frontier Dancer this year. Some long-distance travellers clash at 2.50pm - Gordon Elliott sends Franc Villez (2 wins and 2 seconds from his last 4 races, all at Perth) from Ireland, Philip Hobbs' Mister Gloss comes up from Somerset and Nigel Twiston-Davies' Crescent Island travels from Gloucestershire. The same three trainers clash again at 3.20pm with Valerius (Elliott), Fairoak Lad (Hobbs) and Andrew Nick (Twiston-Davies) - all three also won last time out. Philip Hobbs has dropped out of the contest by 4.50 but the other two keep going! Gordon Elliott won the 4.50pm race last year and runs Misterinbetween, whilst Nigel Twiston-Davies won it in 2004 and 2005 and runs Flemish Invader.

Notable Jockeys: Jockeys Championship leader Ryan Moore. Neil Callan and Paul Hanagan, 3rd and 6th in the championship respectively.
Thursday's programme also includes the fifth and final round of the 2008 Pontefract Apprentice Series - a handicap race over one mile and a quarter. The leading rider of the series (based on a points system regarding places obtained) will receive a fortnight's working holiday over the winter, based at Gulfstream Park, Miami with a leading United States trainer. This popular and unique competition for young riders has been held every year exclusively at Pontefract since 1987.
Notable Horses: Group Captain (4.30pm) won the 2006 November Handicap and was 5th in the Grade 1 Ballymore Properties Hurdle at Cheltenham this year. Hotham (4.00pm) won this race last year and takes on dual Listed winner Chookie Heiton and Arangil who is on a hat-trick. Princess Flame (5.30pm) won over course and distance for today's jockey Kylie Manser just last week.
Feature Race: 4.30pm - the £20,000 Dalby Screw-Driver Handicap Stakes. It's the 16th running of this race, the title of which draws attention to an oil painting of 1826 by the celebrated equine artist, David Dalby of York, who specialised in depicting racing and hunting scenes, along with horse portraiture. This particular painting, which is owned by the race company shows 'Screw-Driver' - owned by Mr. Flintoff Leatham and ridden by Captain W. Healy of the 7th Hussars - winning The Badsworth Cup at Pontefract on March 29 1824.

Notable Horses: Prescription (7.50pm) is on a 4-timer and runs against Al Gillani, a course and distance winner who is on a hat-trick. The only other course winner running tonight is Circadian Rhythm (8.50pm)
