Annette_15: WSOPE continued...
So since my memory is really bad I'll just jump directly to day 4 and the final table. Day 4. I started the day with about 300k if I'm not mistaken. We played until there were 32 left the night before so we were all in the money...
I was playing really aggressive on the bubble and they all just kept folding... an old guy came up to me after the bubble burst and told me he folded Ts in the bb to my raise lol... I prolly had 8 high.
So anyway... we played down to 27 and we had a new redraw which put me on the feature table for the first time. I was excited because I had a good stack and I was feeling very confident in my play.
Seating arrangement:
Blinds: 3k-6k/500
Seat 1: John Tabatabai - 485,000
Seat 2: Tino Lechich - 415,000
Seat 3: Jakob Paulsen - 265,000
Seat 4: Steven van Zadelhoff - 400,000
Seat 5: EMPTY
Seat 6: Annie Duke - 275,000
Seat 7: Oyvind Riisem - 400,000
Seat 8: Pat Scanlon - 155,000
Seat 9: Me - 287,000
Wasn't the best seat for me with an aggressive player to my left, but just had to deal with it.
I started out playing pretty aggressively myself and managed to pick up a lot of pots, putting me at about 450k
Then this pot comes up:
Its folded to me in the CO and I make it 15k with 6d2d. Tabatabai calls on the button. I know he's calling here with a very very wide range of hands hoping to hit big or take it away from me on later streets, so I'm not expecting him to hit a lot of flops. The flop comes out Q96 with two spades. I check knowing that if I bet, he will call regardless. He didn't call on the button to fold to a bet, that much I know. If I bet here I will get no info what so ever, and if he raises me I'll probably have to fold. He bets 18k after I check. At this point I put on shit lol... He's betting even if he hit it or not, so I figure I'll just take the pot away from him right away if he didn't hit it. So I check raise him to 60k expecting a fold. He contemplates forever, starts counting his chips and announces raise. I was pretty much done with my hand here, but turned out he only re-raised me to 140k, which to me made no sense at all. If he had a draw, he woulda raised more to show me that he's committed.... He wouldn't leave himself room to fold or give me a chance to think I had fold equity. If he had Qs or 9s he woulda re-raised pre-flop. 66 is very unlikely since I have one of the 6s, but still a small possibility. Any over pair I think he woulda just called my raise with on the flop and kept the pot small in case I flopped big. The ONLY hand I can really see him having here is Q9s but I don't think he woulda called my pre-flop raise with it... I'm not sure though, but to me his raise here looked like a stone cold bluff because no other hands would make sense. So I shipped my chips in rather quickly and he folded after too much thought. He told me later he had 8 high lol.
After this I was the new chip leader.
I knocked out Annie duke the next level:
Blinds: 4k-8k/1k
I look down at Qs7s in EP and figure its good enough to make a raise with since I have chips. I open for 22k and Annie calls from the small blind with about 180k total. The bb calls as well. The flop is beautiful: AsKs5s so I flop the nuts and they both check... I'm obv not gonna 'give any free cards' so I fire 40k into the almost 70k pot figuring someone has to have a piece of this. Annie counts her chips and says all in, next guy folds and I snap call with my flush. The turn brings an A and gives her some outs but the river is an 8 knocking her out in 21st place.
And my stack is up to 900k.
We play down to 18 players and we redraw again:
Seat 1: Annette Obrestad - 902,000
Seat 2: Will Durkee - 575,000
Seat 3: Johannes Korsar - 720,000
Seat 4: Kenny Tran - 115,000
Seat 5: Steven van Zadelhoff - 355,000
Seat 6: Theo Jorgensen - 402,000
Seat 7: Magnus Persson - 480,000
Seat 8: Abishek Khaitan - 494,000
Seat 9: Dominic Kay - 390,000
We play a couple of rounds and the first thing I notice is this Swedish guy playing pretty much every pot being very aggressive, Magnus Persson. I stay out of his way in the beginning, but I quickly get in a hand with him:
Its folded to me in MP and I make it 23k with 45o in an attempt to steal the blinds. Magnus calls in the bb and we see a flop of AsQhJs. He checks, and I bet 45k which is a pretty big bet, but that's what I woulda bet if I had a big hand to protect against all the draws out there. Magnus quickly calls. The turn is 8h so there are now two flush draws on the board and lotta straight possibilities. I know magnus has a piece of it here, but I didn't think he was too strong as he just flat called my flop bet, maybe something like AT, KJ, Ax, TJ, QJ or a spade draw, so I decide to fire again knowing that I'm gonna have to bet the river if he looks uncomfortable at all calling on the turn. He thinks for a little while and reluctantly makes the call. I'm pretty confident that I can take the pot away from him on the river. The dealer flips the last card and its Kx, so the board is now As Qh Ja 8h Kc. Magnus quickly checks which in my impression hes trying to make his hand look strong hoping I'll check behind. I bet 150k which is about ¾ of the pot. Thinking back, this is an awful bet on my part because I'm not really representing anything. If I had a T I woulda bet less because id want a call. And I'm not playing any hand with a T in it that way. AT id be scared to bet the turn when he called my flop bet so I probably check behind, AA, KK, JJ, AK, AQ, AJ I wouldn't bet as much with on the river, so the only thing that actually makes sense is a bluff, and he sniffed it out by calling with QJ. I know I could've gotten him off the hand by betting like 110-120k which woulda looked stronger, but after this hand I'm down to 575k
I knock out Kenny Tran as well:
(Taken from pokernews.com)
Kenny Tran Eliminated by Annette Obrestad in 16th (£34,390)
Annette raised it up to 23k, Durkee called, Tran pushed all-in for what appeared to be around 150k, Annette announced all-in behind him and Durkee folded.
Annette: 7c7d
Tran: KcAh
Flop: 8hKh5d
Turn: 7d
River: 3h
****DING DING DING*****
cya Kenny!
Even after this hand I manage to screw up.
Swedish guy sitting to my left has been playing pretty down but still opening a fair amount of pots preflop and has also reraises by button raise earlier which I folded to.
So I'm on the button again with 33 and I make it 22k. Johannes reraises from the bb to 100,000 with 450k behind. To me this bet screams a hand that he doesn't want action with, like AJ, 66,77 or maybe a bluff, so I ship in my stack and he instacalls me with Qs... oops, bad read me. I don't hit my 2 outer and I'm down to 200k
I go through the blinds and I look down at 55 next time I'm in MP. The table has been playing really weird, so I know that if I open to a raise here I will def get one caller and have to bet and just lose a lot of chips. Even if I get reraised pre I wont be able to play the hand and since everyone is so deepstacked I really don't wanna openfold my 5s here when there's 20k in the pot to pick up, so I just shove for 180k and I get a call from Johannes who's obviously trying to donate because hes still feeling bad about taking all those chips from me, he flips AJ and gets no help on the flop, I spike my 5 on the turn and he misses his gutshot on the river. Pretty marginal call in my mind, but maybe he thought I was tilting... who knows.
Blinds 5k-10k/1k
I sit quiet for a while watching Magnus Persson run over the table. As usual he opens the pot for somewhere between 35k-40k after a limp and I ship my 280k in with ATs expecting a fold, He thinks forever and calls with AJ... np tho as I spike a T on the flop and double up
I chip up to 700k before the day ends and the final table will be played the next day.
I raised Gus' blinds twice before he busted, with 84o and 92... but he reraised me both times... bleh.
---FINAL TABLE---
The final table line up was crazy
Seat 1: Johannes Korsar (Uppsala, Sweden) - 1,134,000
Seat 2: Oyvind Riisem (Bergen, Norway) - 664,000
Seat 3: John Tabatabai (London, UK) - 982,000
Seat 4: Annette "Annette_15" Obrestad (Sandnes, Norway) - 697,000
Seat 5: Dominic Kay (London, UK) - 490,000
Seat 6: Matthew McCullough (Cherry Hill, NJ, USA) - 1,278,000
Seat 7: Theo Jorgensen (Copenhagen, Denmark) - 605,000
Seat 8: Magnus Persson (Gothenburg, Sweden) - 1,231,000
Seat 9: James Keys (Bury St. Edmunds, UK) - 172,000
I knew even before we started that there would be fireworks every hand, lotta post flop play and lotta raising and re-raising pre-flop, so my plan was really to just play tight until we got shorthanded or at least until some of the crazy guys got crippled or busted.
That's what I did.. And I ended up folding the first two orbits or so watching ppl collapse. I do some set mining with small pp's that misses and I'm quickly down to 500k with the blinds at 6k-12k/1500
I end up all in vs. John with AK and we end up chopping the pot because he has AK also.
The first big hand I got involved with at the final table was on hand 53, so I had been playing extremely tight for over two hours. Blinds were now 8k-16k/2k.
Magnus raises to 46k, Johannes calls, so there's now 100k in the pot and I ship my 438k in with Js. Surprisingly my table image from the day before musta paid off as Persson calls me with 7s and double me up!
I pick up a few more pots by raising pre and betting flops. No real resistance yet.
Made a huge lay-down with 8s 5 handed when Johannes opened the pot for 60k utg at 1k-2k/2k, and tabatabai re-raised to 180k on the button... I was very close to shoving here but just had a bad feeling and mucked my hand. Thankfully Matthew came over the top with a third raise for 500k and they both folded. I shoulda been out that hand for sure...No way Matthew folds if I shove as he's the biggest nit ever.
We get down to 3 handed and I'm now the shortest stack with 1 mill to Johns 3,5mill and Matthews 2,6mill so I figure its time to get going here if I wanna have a chance to win the tourney. It gets ugly though... I'm on the button with QJ and I make it 60k, matthew in the sb calls and John re'raises to 245k.... Sigh, like I didn't see that coming. I know John can have any two here and he's prolly folding to a shove 80% of the time. I instashove and he calls me with JJ.... Oops again, at least I trusted my instincts... cya next year etc
OOOOH Q on the river! Oh really? Yeah...... really. I run good so I sit back down and keep playing.
Another big hand from 3 handed play:
I raise on the button to 80k with AQ and John calls. Flop is KQ9. He checks and I check behind scared of being check raised and having to play a big pot. The turn is a Q and he leads for 135k. I just call in hopes of making it look like I'm on the draw planning to fire a big bet on the river if a blank falls, the river is an A and John throws 250k in the pot... at this point, I know hes got some kind of hand, I'm hoping he flopped a straight or has a weak Q or hit the A on the end so I raise him to 550k just hoping for a call. He hesitates, but puts in the rest so he can see my hand. I scoop a 1,5 mill pot and take over the chip-lead.
I wont go through the HU hands as this part is very exciting with a lot of action and I don't wanna give anything away since it will be shown on TV in the near future. So, stay tuned for the bets HU match ever! :P:P
After London, I played in Aruba, EPT Baden and WPT in Barcelona. I went deep in Aruba making it to the end of the second day not too far from the money when a 4 bet with K4 ran into Ks and knocked me out.
In Baden, I busted two hours in after a Swedish guy crippled me when he hit a flush after check raising me all in with a flush draw on a 9 high board vs. my Ks.
I did better on Barcelona, making it to day 2 with an ok stack, but lost couple of flips early on and had a tough table. Ended up shoving A5s on an aggressive player who raised on the button. He woke up with AJ and knocked me out.
Next stop will be in London again for Late Night Poker, so until then, GL at the tables, and don't do anything I wouldn't do ;)
